On March 10th, BYD held the groundbreaking ceremony for its first overseas passenger vehicle manufacturing base in Thailand and simultaneously held the delivery ceremony for the 9,999th and 10,000th BYD ATTO 3.
This marks the further expansion of BYD’s overseas layout and is an other manifestation of BYD’s deepening its presence in the Asia-Pacific market.
In 2022, BYD’s cumulative sales of new energy vehicles exceeded 1.86 million, up 208.6% YoY, making it the world’s top in new energy vehicle sales. In February 2023, BYD’s sales of new energy vehicles were 193,655, compared to 88,283 the same period last year. In the pure electric vehicle segment, BYD’s sales in February 2023 were 90,639, with a cumulative sales of 161,977 from January to February, an increase of 80.86% compared to the same period last year. This achievement is due to BYD’s comprehensive upgrades and efforts in product research and development, production and manufacturing, and sales channels, as well as the active promotion and support of new energy vehicle markets by governments of various countries.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary General of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), said, “The establishment of BYD’s Thai manufacturing base will inject new vitality into Thailand’s new energy vehicle industry, bringing more job opportunities and economic benefits and promoting economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchange between China and Thailand.”
Mr. Piriya Khempon, Special Advisor, Foreign Affairs of the Eastern Economic Corridor of Thailand, said, “Currently, the problems of climate change and energy shortages facing the world have attracted the attention of all countries. Promoting the development of new energy vehicles is necessary for protecting the earth and an inevitable choice for promoting sustainable global economic development.”
Mr. Supot Torarthan, Deputy Governor of Rayong Province, Thailand, said, “Thailand is one of the largest automobile manufacturing and exporting countries in Southeast Asia, and Roi Et Province is an important automobile production and export base in Thailand. The establishment of BYD’s passenger vehicle factory in Thailand will inject new vitality into developing the country’s new energy vehicle market.”
Mr. Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division, said, “BYD has always adhered to the corporate philosophy of ‘technology, green, future’ and continuously promoted the innovation and development of new energy vehicle technology. Establishing the passenger vehicle manufacturing base in Thailand is vital to speed up our layout in the Asia-Pacific market and promote local industry development.
Mr. Wang Liping, Minister of Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Kingdom of Thailand, said, “This is a significant milestone for BYD in expanding its production layout and strengthening its international strategy in the Asia-Pacific region. It is another testament to BYD’s acceleration in the new energy arena and the realization of global green travel.”
Meanwhile, BYD delivered the 9,999th and 10,000th BYD ATTO 3 to customers with Rever Automative company on site. BYD prepared this particular segment to show its appreciation to customers and its commitment to quality and innovation.
Thailand has become one of the important centers for the new energy vehicle industry in the Asia-Pacific region. As of January 31, 2023, the total number of registered pure electric vehicles in Thailand was 16,672, a 281.86% YoY increase. With a series of new energy vehicle industries and subsidy policies pushed by the Thai government, the country’s new energy vehicle market will continue to grow at high speed.
By relying on the BYD ATTO 3 single model, BYD registered 1,352 vehicles from the start of sales in November 2022 to the end of January 2023, accounting for 8% of the total number of pure electric vehicles registered in Thailand. By the end of February, the number of BYD ATTO 3 registered in Thailand had reached 3,000, which shows BYD’s leading position in the Thai pure electric vehicle market.
BYD ATTO 3 is BYD’s first pure electric SUV upon e-platform 3.0 launched in Thailand, with excellent performance in design, technology, performance, and user experience. At the delivery ceremony, Mr. Ke Yubin, General Manager of BYD Thailand, said, “We are very honored to deliver the 9,999th and 10,000th BYD ATTO 3 to our customers. We will continue to work hard to provide better products and services and promote the development of the new energy vehicle industry.”
The construction and promotion of the passenger car production base are inseparable. After the production base is put into operation, the time from ordering to delivery in the Thai market will no longer need to go through the long process of exporting by sea and clearing customs procedures, which will significantly improve BYD’s delivery efficiency in the Thai market and better serve the Thai market.
The BYD passenger vehicle manufacturing base in Thailand covers an area of nearly 600 rai (1 rai approximately equals 1600 square meters) and is expected to begin production in 2024 with an annual capacity of about 150,000 vehicles. In the future, BYD will continue to provide Thai consumers with various product choices and better service experiences, spare no effort in promoting the development of the new energy vehicle industry, and actively contribute to the further advancement of Thailand’s environmental protection cause.
